Another blue goggle bed time story April 24, 2012

May I just say that he refuses to wear these in water, but come bed time…

He put them on as he crawled into bed.  Just before he fell asleep he told me he wanted the goggles off his eyes but on his head still.  So he slept in them just like this all night.

Trevor’s aha! moment April 21, 2012

While getting ready for his bath this evening, he observed:  Water sure is very wet–you don’t want to wear your clothes in it.

We went up to Derek’s parents’ place for cattle branding.  Trevor enjoyed watching the bovine “rites of passage” and the opportunity to ride Aunt Tamra’s horse, Kate.  The kids enjoyed a wagon ride, courtesy of Uncle Kolby, and Charity enjoyed the continuation of that ride, courtesy of Trevor and Owen.  She really is a princess.

She also felt like hot stuff sitting way up high in Grandpa’s new tractor.

Hot dog delight April 12, 2012

When Trevor didn’t quite finish his self-created meal of hotdogs, ketchup, sour cream and corn, I was tempted to polish it off myself.  I decided I wasn’t that hungry.

I guess the fact that he liked it and ate most of it is all that matters.

Ramblings of a nesting preggo April 3, 2012

I had my 33 week OB check-up yesterday.  The baby’s heart beat was cruising at 180 and the little guy was bouncing all over the place.  Dr. M. commented that I’ve got a pretty active little person in there.  I tend to agree.

Last Tuesday, my doc almost got a call from me in the middle of the night.  I have strong and frequent Braxton-Hicks contractions that seem to start earlier and be more frequent with each of my pregnancies.  Generally, though, they are uncomfortable but not painful and diminish with rest.  Well, Tuesday they were strong enough with some lower abdominal and back pain to keep me awake from 10pm to 4am.  They started about every 10-11 minutes apart and the last three hours averaged about every 7 minutes in frequency.  Six hours of laying on my left side, drinking as much water as I could in between a few little cat naps did nothing.  I was definitely getting a little nervous, as I was only 32 weeks at the time.  The only things that prevented me from calling were that they were not getting any stronger, were a tad inconsistent and seemed to be affected by my movement (anytime I lifted my head to drink or got up to refill my water, one would immediately start).  Finally, around 4am they subsided on their own.

Last month the baby’s head was low but not engaged and on Monday, his head was still down but not as low and had shifted to my right side a bit.  So he’s still floating around in there, which is somewhat reassuring when considering all these contractions.  And since it doesn’t seem to be helping with the contractions anymore, I’m coming off my progesterone now, which means I will likely become the moody and easily irritated (insert bad word here) that I’ve been through much of this pregnancy.  I’m hopeful and am trying to think mind over matter, but where hormones are concerned, some emotions are difficult to control.

On the upside, between this lovely spring and this point in my pregnancy, I am nesting and reorganizing the kids’ closets and dressers, switching out the seasonal wardrobes and making room for another kid’s clothes.  Between the chest of drawers and changing table, each rugrat now gets two drawers, with the remaining drawer dedicated to diapers and such.  I think it will work.  Tamra just brought back the boy newborn clothes we lent her (with some new-to-me items of Owen’s mixed in there) so I’ve washed them up and stored them in one of Baby Elephant’s newly designated drawers.  I just need to get down tubs and sort out a few newborn girl items and will then feel pretty well set.  Or maybe not: I still need to find the newborn insert for our infant car seat, get the swing out of storage, track down my swaddling blankets…I tossed my last baby bath sling because it was getting yucky so a new baby bath would be nice, but probably not necessary…I started cloth diapering with Charity a few months ago and have been meaning to make some cloth wipes because I think they would actually make the cd’ing easier.  Hmmm…what else?  I’m starting to not feel very ready now.

Life with the crazies April 3, 2012

Do you ever have days that just feel chaotic?  Sunday evening was one of those times.  I can’t quite put my finger on it but I think it had something to do with Trevor SCREAMING during a haircut and shower, or the stifling 84 degrees inside our house before Derek finally agreed at 7pm to turn on the a/c, or maybe it was Charity peeing on our living room armchair–TWICE, the second time while Derek was still cleaning up the first (our fault for allowing her some bare bottom time, but come on, twice in two minutes?).  It just takes a couple of things like that to make all the other not-even-worth-mentionings that would otherwise be perfectly normal feel like the most stressful things in the world.

Palm Sunday April 1, 2012

As long as it works for all the locals, we generally get together on Palm Sunday with my mom’s side to celebrate Easter.  This year was no exception.  It doesn’t seem like it was too long ago that all of the grandkids (meaning myself and my cousins) were doing all the coloring of eggs.  Now, I barely get my hands dirty as the table is filled with all the great grandbabies.

Trevor and Charity both enjoyed it this year.  Charity had a tendency to get a little crazy with the spoon in the dye cups…

…but then had some quiet time on Daddy’s lap, coloring an egg with a crayon for quite a while.

I don’t remember ever having 90 degree weather on a Palm Sunday, and while that’s a little warm for me, I’ll take it over the cold and windy that it often seems to be.  It was great for water gun fun and an egg hunt in Grandma and Grandpa’s backyard.

Trevor is in love with Fayte.  He is constantly asking me if he can call him on the phone, when he’s coming over to play and tells me frequently, Fayte is my best friend forever.

The birthday fun continues March 31, 2012

Derek’s parents and siblings were all in town so his parents treated us to a yummy birthday dinner.  And afterwards Trevor treated us to some awesome cheesecake.

He’s getting to be so good that the following weekend Aunt Ana enlisted his help in making a strawberry cheesecake for a family Easter get-together.  He has a future as a “cooker,” as he calls himself.

Trevor seized the opportunity, once again, to sing to Daddy.

And then was more than willing to help him blow out the candles.

To end the evening, the three cuz’s had fun riding Uncle Kolby/Dad.  The HUGE smiles say it all.

Happy Birthday, Daddy-O! March 29, 2012

Filed under: Birthdays,Charity,Derek,laughter,pregnancy,quotables,Trevor — Jennifer @ 3:25 am

Today is Daddy-O’s birthday.  Trevor, Charity and I colored pictures for him yesterday and left them by his coffeepot this morning.  Trevor woke up just as Derek was leaving for work so he got a couple of early morning birthday hugs and wishes, too.  Trevor made very sure to tell him who colored which pictures, in case Daddy couldn’t tell.

Trevor was just pumped all day about celebrating Derek’s birthday.  At one point in the afternoon, following some accomplishment, I sang “Go Trevor, go Trevor, it’s your birthday,” while he laughed and immediately corrected me, “No mommy, it’s, go Trevor, go Trevor, it’s Daddy’s birthday.”

Trevor had decided we should make Derek a strawberry cheesecake.  I found two recipes and gave Trevor the choice of a swirly strawberry cheesecake or one with strawberries on top.  I thought for sure he’d choose “swirly” but he wanted one with strawberries on top, so we set out to make it together.  Things tend to get a little messier and take a little longer, but it’s fun to have help in the kitchen.  Then we made one of Daddy’s favorite meals–gumbo–and had a nice dinner on the back patio.

We have also been meaning to take some shots of the kids in front of our tulips while they are still absolutely gorgeous (the tulips, not the kids–the kiddos will be gorgeous forever), so decided birthday pics with Daddy was the perfect opportunity.

Had to throw in a couple belly shots. 32 weeks and 4 days.

Trev looks like he’s having a convo with baby elephant but I think he’s actually preparing to head butt my belly.

The cheesecake is for this weekend with Derek’s family, so we lit up a delicious pistachio dessert that my Grandma K. dropped off for Derek (and co., it’s certainly one of my faves).  I almost forgot to sing but Trevor started right in with version 2 of 3 of “Happy Birthday.”  Derek was serenaded on the phone earlier and once more before bed.

Somehow, Derek managed to extinguish all 31 of his candles in one breath.  I hope you had a great birthday, honey.  We sure enjoyed spending it with you.

My little sweetheart March 27, 2012

When Trevor woke up this morning he came and laid in bed with me.  Still half asleep he cupped my face in his hands and said, Mom, I love you all the time.  Do you love me all the time?

Always and forever, I replied.

Always and forever?  That’s so nice.
