Jarrod and Christiana’s wedding day August 20, 2011

Trevor was the most awesome ring bearer ever.  But on to that later.  That morning, while the boys spent about four frustrating hours setting up the head table back drop of tulle, twinkle lights, and PVC pipe, Charity was having a much sweeter time.  Explanation:  I’d had a baggie of m&m’s in my purse to bribe Trevor into walking down the aisle, if need be.  She found them.

By the time the boys got back home to get dressed for pictures Trevor was exhausted.  Andy and Rene were in town from Virginia and stopped by to borrow our Prius for the weekend.  Both Trevor and Charity chose this time to have major meltdowns.  Charity was just being her usual anti-social self and Trevor was so upset at how tight the neck in his shirt was once I buttoned the top button.  I tried to tell him it was one of the few times in life in which men had it rough (I’m really just kidding guys) but he could not be consoled.  Solution: lollipop.

Charity and I dropped the boys off at the church.  Trevor fell asleep on the way over and with his earlier meltdown still vivid in our minds, we were worried it was going to be a long day for him.

According to the report, he did magnificently.  He started off smiling for every picture and when he tired of that, he still stood cooperatively.  I woke Charity from her nap to get to the church for some family photos that we never ended up taking and boy was she in a pissy mood.  We could not get a smile out of her, in fact we were just happy when she wasn’t crying.

Man, my little guy is looking so handsome and grown up.

Trevor and Jadyn were an amazing little couple.  They walked down the aisle together dropping petals.  They still had a few left in the basket when they reached the altar, so they had to stand there and empty the basket before they would part.  So cute.  That was to be the end of their role but Jadyn’s mom, Amanda, and I thought that with all their excitement and good behavior they needed to walk back down the aisle together at the end of the ceremony.  When the time was right, Amanda and I made eye contact, gave each other the look and each sent our cutie back out to the altar.  As they made their way back up the aisle they made sure to step on every petal they had earlier dropped.  They really were a pair.

At the reception both my kids were in great moods, Charity because there was food, and Trevor because there was dancing.  I’ve yet to figure out how to put video out here (that’s one function in google blogger that I like better) but if I ever do I’ll put out the video of Trevor and Jadyn cutting a rug together.  Gosh, they were so fun to watch.

The kids and I were at a table with my mom,

aunt and uncle,

and Andy and Rene.

The bride was beautiful, the food scrumptious, the venue lovely, and the company amazing.  Congratulations Jarrod and Christiana!

Rehearsal night August 19, 2011

Trevor had his second go at ring bearer for Derek’s brother’s wedding.  He got some practice in the night before with the cutest little flower girl, Jadyn, the three year old daughter of one of our friends.  They had a rocky relationship up until this point.  At her birthday back in March he pushed her away when she tried to hug him and at his birthday party she remembered Trevor as the boy who wouldn’t hug her.  But thank goodness, for the weekend celebrations they were able to put their past behind them and have a blast together.  And fortunately, Jadyn was kind enough to share her petal-dropping duties with Trevor.

Charity just wiled away the time eating Cheerios

and texting her friends.

At dinner that evening Trevor found another crew to hang with.  Our friends have four perfectly tiered boys from age eight or nine down to three.  Trevor was in Heaven, he loves tagging behind older boys.

What’s in a name? September 1, 2010

Trevor has a new name.  We were up in Bassett this weekend for a wedding.  Trevor is my little social butterfly.  Big kids love him.  They were taking turns carrying him around the dance floor and giving him mucho attention.  Which he in turn loved.  The new friendships all started outside on a flat bed trailer.  The kids were jumping around on it when they discovered Trevor.  They asked him his name.  Trevor doesn’t respond appropriately to that question yet so he instead, realizing he had their attention, pointed to the sky and said, “Oooo bah.”  One little kid excitedly repeated, “His name is Oooo bah!”  It was eventually corrected to Trevin and finally to Trevor.

My kids love each other.  When the TV is on Trevor will sit by Charity and hold her hand while watching the television.  When the TV is off, he sits by her, holding her hand, rubbing his face against it and speaking to her.

Charity hates it when Trevor cries.  When he’s upset, her bottom lip comes out.

They make each other smile.  When Trevor is fussy all you have to do is say, “Charity just smiled at you,” and he will look at her and smile back.  When she’s tired of playing on the floor and starts to fuss, Trevor will stop whatever he is doing, say, “Charity cry,” and then go to comfort her.  He has a way of bringing a smile to her face.

California Revisited…part V July 17, 2010

The big day was just around the corner.  The boys took over my brother’s house so mom, Charity and I slept at my grandparents’ place.  I hadn’t spent the night with them since high school, probably.  Grandparents’ homes have a different feel right before bed, so serene.  It was nice.  I felt like a kid again.

We woke up early the next morning and spent most of the day getting ready.  It’s a complex process, you know.  Then the girls met up at Nichole’s mom’s place for a fancy limo ride to the wedding gardens.

We drank champagne in the bride’s room and helped Nichole dress.  Andy and Nichole met each other privately at the altar before the ceremony so the rest of us continued to hang out and drink Arnold Palmer tee and/or champagne.

The ceremony was short and beautiful.  Considering it was 105 degrees we were thankful for the “short.”  And since it was my brother and the woman he loves, it couldn’t have been anything but beautiful.

The reception was great.  Trevor was in love with Rylee, the flower girl.  She is adorable, he has great taste.  They danced…

and hugged…

and held hands.  I think she eventually grew weary of his affection.

Here are the bride and groom in their first dance.

Charity slept most of the day.  I think it was the extreme heat.  She was sure worrying her great-grandmothers.

Trevor was eyeing the cake from the start.  This is the piece that Andy and Nichole cut for each other.  He just couldn’t wait until the cake was served and they were nice enough to share.

The newlyweds and the longest married couple, our grandparents.

Four generations of handsome men.

My new sister.

and Charity’s new aunt.

Congratulations to my brother and his lovely wife!

Welcome to the family, Nichole!  We love you and are glad you are a part of our lives.  My brother’s a lucky guy!
